Our curriculum is built around the six domains under-pining the Ministry of Education Curriculum Framework, namely Aesthetics and Creative Expression, Discovery of the World, Language Development, Numeracy, Motor Skills Development and Social and Emotional Development for the four to six years old. The curriculum aims to nurture children holistically so that they are confident, have strong social skills and a good foundation in literacy and numeracy.
We base our curriculum on the Early Years Development Framework developed by former Ministry of Community, Youth and Sports which builds strong foundation and provides holistic development for the three years old and younger.
We adopt thematic approach to learning which allows children to see how facts and ideas are connected to one another across different areas of learning, thereby constructing meaning.
We engage children in S.T.E.A.M. learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) developing in children 21st century skills which include critical thinking, imagination, problem solving, innovation and social skills.
We use technology and media to enhance the learning experience and to make it exciting, relevant to children.
We include enrichment programmes which have been specially selected from experienced professionals who are forerunners in their respective arenas.
We place a strong emphasis on bilingualism and our programmes are designed to inculcate in children the love of learning both English and Mandarin languages.

Our Unique Programmes
Robotics plays an important role in introducing digital technology to children. Robots are mechanical devices that respond to instructions pre-programmed in their processing units. Educational robotics has become a new generation of learning manipulatives that helps children develop a stronger understanding of mathematical concepts in numeracy the same way that traditional materials like blocks, beads and balls. Unlike apps and educational software developed for children, robotics activities do not involve sitting alone; in front of a computer. Robotic kits allow children to develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination while engaging in collaboration and team work. It is an effective way of introducing children to programming, which hones their logical thinking skills and sharpens concepts in Science and Engineering in an exciting, fun and real-world setting.
At Canberra Preschool, we have researched and developed, in collaboration with *Avenue Learn, a proprietary Robotics and Coding programme specially for children aged 3 to 6 years old. These programmes are integrated into learning environments designed to stimulate creative learning, logical thinking and innovative problem solving. We have selected various robotic tools which cater to the different age groups from 3 years old to 6 years old.
Our robotic educational kits are not limited to one but include a variety to ensure age-appropriateness. The robotic kits that are integrated into our curriculum are: Cubetto, Code-a-pillar, Code & Go Robot Mouse Activity, Dash & Dot and Kibo. These kits are specially designed for pre-schoolers and they add new dimensions of creative, fun learning for children. We are excited to empower our children to become creative leaders in the digital era!
Research has shown that children who have access to the internet in a safe, self-organising learning environment can benefit immensely over the ones who don’t. When children are given the opportunity to take charge of their learning, they gain in self-confidence and are able to retain what they have researched much longer. This also encourages them to learn to read sooner.
The MiniSoft education system, an innovative programme developed by Canberra Preschool in collaboration with *Spacelytic is a platform for children to access search engine pages using a controlled version of internet in a safe environment. The system allows children to search for theme-related activities, songs, information in educational and child-friendly webpages, developing in them independence in ownership of their learning. Another unique feature, the email communication system, allows children to communicate with their parents providing them updates with activities in the centre. It is an introduction to children on the use of email in a child-friendly manner developing in them early literacy. In the MyShow module, children learn to create presentation slides based on information researched earlier. MyData module introduces children to graphical representation to data collected for their theme-related activities. Children gain confidence, develop literacy and numeracy and social skills while doing collaborative research with their peers.
The Music Connection Kids
Music lessons in early childhood lead to changes in the brain that could improve its performance far into adulthood, researchers say. Music is also an important part of our lives and the introduction of music classes in our preschool will help children in developing their thinking, language, fine motor skills and even in emotional development. When children play with musical instruments, they explore cause and effect. When children sing, they practise pronouncing words and putting together sentences. When they sing to songs with fine motor movements or dance to music, they perfect their control of their arms and legs.
Canberra Preschool “Little Music Explorers” music programme, in partnership with *The Music Connection, aims to impart life- learning values, introduce musical concepts, as well as enhance children’s knowledge and skills from an early age. This music and movement programme is specifically designed to integrate explicit focus areas on life learning lessons with musical concepts. The music curriculum was constructed based on the Kodaly, Dalcroze and Orff methodologies that are widely used internationally. The syllabus revolves around different instruments each term and children will be able to pick up and grasp the basic skills of playing these instruments.
Gymnastics is one of the most comprehensive exercise programmes available to children as it incorporates the training of strength, flexibility, speed, balance, coordination, power, and discipline. It helps children build a range of motor and coordination skills, and assists in developing a good sense of body awareness. Children who participate in gymnastics tend to have better control over their bodies, better hand-eye co-ordination, and better stability than other children in the same age group.
We are excited to be partnering with *My Gym who has developed an award-winning programme and facilities devised to help children develop physically, cognitively and emotionally. The programme is delivered with high energy and focuses on children’s engagement to develop healthy minds and strong bodies. It focuses on the 4 domains of children’s development – physical, social, emotional and cognitive. The activities are designed to enhance the “I CAN” attitude, linguistic development, music and rhythm, fine and gross motor skills, auditory and visual stimulation, confidence and self-esteem.
Children love being engaged in hands-on activities that are fun and allow them to explore a variety of materials. Art and craft lessons provide an avenue for children to process the world around them, encourage fine motor skills development and problem-solving abilities. With varied activities, art and craft allows for neural connection where all the senses can be engaged simultaneously, and in the process, promotes their creativity in creating their own unique art pieces.
Our weekly timetable includes lessons for Art and Craft where children get to draw, create, paint and model using a variety of media based on the themes for each week and month. We believe that children learn best when they are provided with hands-on experience. We offer an environment where it is fun and safe to experiment and create; where questions are encouraged and children have access to the materials they need to create their art works.
Literacy development is a vital part of a children’s overall development. It is the ability to read, write, speak and listen in a way that allows children to communicate effectively. It forms the foundation for children to socialise with others, develop independence, interpret and discern the intricacies of the world they live in. At Canberra Preschool, we build a strong foundation in English language by integrating Letterland Literacy programme in children’s daily activities. The alphabet is transformed into child-friendly pictograms living in an imaginary place called Letterland. The programme uses simple stories and songs to explain letter sounds and shapes. This allows children to progress quickly to word building, read and writing.
In addition, we also incorporate the Reading Bee programme where a balance approach will be used, acknowledging the importance of both form and function of the literacy processes. It combines humour, creative illustrations and clever storytelling to provide children with enjoyable reading experiences. Together with activities like show-and-tell in the classroom, role play and creative writing, we inculcate in children the love of the language building a strong foundation for successful literacy development.
Our curriculum is bilingual as teachers of both languages are co-partner of each class. Children are introduced to the En Yi Character and Values-Centred Chinese Reading programme which is designed to cultivate children’s love for the Chinese language. These books help children to develop fundamental understanding of core values, namely: Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Harmony, Care and Integrity. It combines language and value learning and is written based on Primary School Moral Education syllabus.
Children begin to develop number awareness at a very young age. Numeracy is the ability to apply mathematic concepts in all areas of life and it involves understanding numbers, counting, solving number problems, measuring, sorting, noticing patterns, adding and subtracting numbers and other number skills. Mathematics is an important and integrated part of our daily lives and there are many opportunities for children to make sense of everyday situations and develop numeracy at the same time.
At Canberra Preschool, we aim to build a strong foundation in children’s numeracy by creating an environment conducive to learning of mathematic concepts. Our teachers employ the strategies for setting up the learning spaces, use of children’s literature and planning the daily routines and interacting with children around math-related concepts. Numeracy concepts are further strengthened when teachers provide children with words, materials and resources to explore and investigate mathematical concepts.
At Avenue Learn robotics enrichment centre, we are focused on bringing robotics to children of all ages. We provide not only a platform for robotics enthusiasts, but ensure that the skills are honed and expanded. We aim to nurture and equip each child with skills such as planning, sketching, materials selections to the actual work of building and programming. Each stage requires a variety of skills such as logical and computational thinking and independent learning which are useful in the fields of technology and engineering but also in everyday living.
We are excited to be collaborating with Canberra Preschool in pioneering the Coding and Robotics programme for preschoolers; the first of its kind in Singapore. Our carefully crafted, age-appropriate curriculum integrated into the school thematic learning, provides platforms for children to exercise creativity and innovation and learn fundamental skills required for robotics. These skills and experiences from our approach and curriculum will jumpstart them to a lifelong journey of exploration in pursuits of endless possibilities.
